The client

Business eXchange Network (BXN) is a professional business networking group in Austin and the surrounding area. It has chapters across the metro, regular meetings and a member directory app, BXN Pro. Its own team built a new site and the app with AI tools and asked us to guide the work.

Small tweaks he recommended that would make a large difference.

Built with AI, guided by people

BXN’s team built the new site and the BXN Pro member app themselves, with AI tools. Building was fast. What the tools don’t give you is someone who looks at the result the way a guest, a sponsor and Google will. For two to three months Konstantin played that role. He advised on the structure of the new site and oversaw the move from the old one. He also audited the site and the app screen by screen before each launch. The team made the changes themselves.

July: an offer a visitor can say yes to

The first audit was about conversion: what a stranger needs to see before booking a visit, and what a sponsor needs before paying. BXN put these changes live:

  • a title and headline that say what BXN is and where;
  • a page for each chapter, with its own headline, schedule and address;
  • a comparison with traditional referral groups;
  • the meeting agenda;
  • public prices, with the return math for sponsors;
  • sponsors in one grid;
  • a row of numbers under the first screen.

When BXN asked what videos to film, we suggested bringing together its most active members, each telling what the group has given their business. Those videos now stand on the site under “What BXN Members Are Saying”.

By mid-October bxnmembers.com was the first Google result for “austin business networking group”.

Before the switch: what an AI-built site hides

The new site looked finished. The pre-launch audit, on a laptop and a phone, found what a guest and a search engine would have hit:

  • “visit free” buttons that led to three different places, one of them a payment form;
  • every page telling Google it was a copy of the homepage;
  • pages that stayed empty until JavaScript ran, so a shared link previewed as the homepage and AI search tools saw a blank page;
  • no sitemap, no real 404 pages, old addresses with no redirects, and no analytics to show where new members come from;
  • no phone number or email anywhere on the site.

The fixes before launch:

  • one short form behind every “Visit free” button;
  • a title, description and canonical tag for each page, in pre-rendered HTML;
  • a sitemap, real 404 pages and a redirect for every old address;
  • Tag Manager in place before the switch;
  • one set of numbers on every page;
  • a phone number and an email on the site.

After launch came a homepage order built around the free visit, fixes page by page, design notes and a plan to grow Google reviews.

BXN Pro, before members saw it

BXN Pro is the group’s member directory, a new product of its own. We audited the app screen by screen before its release, and helped with how member testimonials display on a phone.

What BXN got

  • The move from the old site to the new one, advised and overseen by us: structure, search at the switch, redirects, tracking
  • Deep UI audits of the site and of the BXN Pro app before each launch, every page on a laptop and a phone
  • Conversion: the offer, the value proposition and the path from the first screen to a booked visit, reworked in July and October
  • Four pre-launch fixes, so no guests were lost at the door and no rankings at the switch
